Dermarollers VS Micro-Infusion: Here’s Why Micro-Infusion Puts Dermarolling to Shame

Written by Our Editorial Team

Microneedling is the treatment that does it all. Acne, large pores, fine lines, dull skin, and much more can be managed with just a single microneedling session – with deeper results when used consistently.

This minimally invasive procedure for your skin is easy to do at home, but not all devices are created equal. If you’re deciding on which is right for you, let’s start by saying there are several types of microneedling products.

In this post, we’ll discuss what we’re asked about most: the standard dermaroller vs Qure’s Micro-Infusion System.

But first, what’s the difference?

Dermarollers:

Dermarollers have short, blunt needles fit onto a cylinder. Operated by hand, you roll it across the skin.

Micro-Infusion:

The Micro-Infusion System has 24K gold clinical-grade needles on a flat surface which you “stamp” into the skin. This creates controlled trauma in your skin, which can help boost the feel of firmness and smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The needles are thinner than human hair, so you will hardly even feel them.

Qure’s Micro-Infusion System has a one-two punch, making it uniquely effective.

How it works: Is there any skin damage?

Dermarollers:

Rolling creates irregular micro-channels, meaning that the channels are not stamping the skin in an even, spaced-out fashion. This causes unnecessary damage, and leads to slower recovery of the skin.

LA-based dermatologist Dr. Sarmela Sunder gives us some insights, saying that “the skin can get traumatized by the dragging of the dermaroller… [its] use can lead to scars, hyperpigmentation, and infection in an unsterile environment.”

Micro-Infusion:

With Micro-Infusion, stamping is more of a refined process. It stamps the skin through clean micro-channels which don't over-damage the skin. This means there’s little to no downtime to recover after your stamping session.

Although the needles themselves are actually longer than most at-home needling systems, the ultra-fine needles are thinner than a human hair, so that means you’ll feel minimal to no pain during treatment.

Due to a disposable needle head, the application is much cleanlier. You'll still want to clean out the serum chamber and do a patch test to see how your skin might react.

Results: What can I expect?

Dermarollers:

Dermarollers have short, blunt needles that only touch the topmost layer of the skin which is mainly dry, dead skin. This is why many derma rollers only claim to:

  • Help remove dead skin
  • Help smooth out the skin

Because the needles do not penetrate the skin, any serum application will remain superficial. You must first apply skincare product onto your face and let the dermaroller push it down into the skin while manually rolling the device.

Micro-Infusion:

Micro-Infusion has longer needles that penetrate the skin. Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. Shah expands on this, saying that "[Qure's Micro-Infusion] will help your products penetrate better.”

Second, the invisible micro-channels infuse the top layer of your skin with serums that are packed with science-backed ingredients. Micro-infusion is customizable, helping ingredients to penetrate into your skin and deliver a variety of results, such as:

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Elevate overall complexion
  • Smooth skin texture
  • Help fade scars and hyperpigmentation
  • Help reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Wake up with dewy looking, glowing skin
Pricing: Is it easy and affordable?

Dermaroller:

Using a dermaroller is quite simple, but performing the session correctly in a way that doesn’t create unnecessary skin trauma can take some getting used to.

More importantly, the needles become blunt after several uses and you’ll need to replace the dermaroller heads after several uses. In addition, there is a less effective absorption of serum because the serum is applied topically, rather than delivered into the skin.

Micro-Infusion:

Unlike dermarolling, microneedling started in clinic offices and have now made their way to in-home treatments making it an affordable and convenient option. This at-home device delivers serum directly to skin to help increase absorption and deliver more results for your skin.
